IAS Educational Fund Meeting - Nigeria
The IAS, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and the West African Infectious Disease Institute (WAIDI) are proud to announce that the first series of IAS Educational Fund meetings, The Science Driven HIV Response in Nigeria – Translating Best Practices into Policy Service Delivery, was held on 26-28 October in Abuja, Nigeria.
This 3-day meeting brought together more than 300 experts of the HIV response in Nigeria, including policy makers, implementing partners, clinicians, HIV service providers, advocates, development partners and patient communities to discuss the latest science and question how it impacts local epidemics.
Key issues such as HIV prevention, test and treat, elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis (eMTCT), managing co-infections with hepatitis, and funding pipelines for HIV research priorities were analyzed and reviewed.
The scientific symposium, Building Consensus – Strategies for bridging the gap between HIV science and programme implementation, which was held on day 2, was attended by more than 200 participants. It focused on providing knowledge and skills training for local, national, and regional HIV and public health experts in Nigeria in line with the latest findings on treatment best practice, HIV prevention technologies, HIV co-infections and HIV cure.
On day 3, a group of experts worked on the selection of key recommendations to be addressed in Nigeria. The outcome of their discussion will be soon available online.
