At Unitaid, Carmen identifies and supports interventions to overcome access barriers to innovative treatment and diagnosis and prevention tools for major diseases affecting low- and middle-income countries. She is currently focusing on COVID-19 therapeutics, HIV co-infections and co-morbidities, and new technologies, such as long-acting tools and innovative delivery forms for paediatric treatments.

Carmen has spent most of her career in global health, working with NGOs, mainly Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders), and consulting for the World Health Organization. She has also supported Global Fund programmes as Senior Global Health Supply Officer. Carmen has a Bachelor’s in pharmacy and an MSc in virology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
