Person-Centred Care Global Advocacy Academy 2027

Mon, 8 Mar 2027 - Wed, 10 Mar 2027

8:00am - 5:00pm [CET]

Geneva, Switzerland

The Person-Centred Care Global Advocacy Academy 2027 will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 8 to 10 March 2027.

This academy is organized by the Person-Centred Care programme of IAS – the International AIDS Society – in collaboration with partners and with financial support from Gilead Sciences.

Applications are now open

The IAS will award up to 20 fellowships to suitable candidates to engage in a series of interactive sessions over three days. Academy fellows will explore the evidence for, and implementation of, person-centred care for people living with HIV and vulnerable to HIV acquisition, with a particular focus on integrated care and shared learnings from other health areas. Selected fellows will be fully supported to attend the academy (transport, accommodation and catering), subject to local compliance guidelines.

Through this academy, participants will understand how to apply the principles of person-centred care in their settings and adapt them to the needs of the communities they serve. Person-centred care for people living and ageing with HIV or vulnerable to HIV acquisition requires a multisectoral and integrated response to address broader healthcare needs. This includes the management of other chronic care needs related to diabetes and cardiovascular issues, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, other sexually transmitted infections and HPV-related cancers, and care for mental health conditions.

The objectives are to:

  • Provide training and skills building on person-centred care values and approaches.
  • Explore opportunities and facilitators for appropriately integrated service delivery across health areas.
  • Create opportunities for advocates, researchers, healthcare providers and community members from the HIV community and from other health sectors to exchange, interact and collaborate.
  • Guide participants to identify service delivery gaps in their settings and develop action plans to strengthen appropriately integrated healthcare.
  • Strengthen participants’ ability to advocate for integrated care with policy makers, the media, programme managers and the wider community.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate involvement as an advocate, researcher or healthcare provider – including peer educators – in the HIV or related health field for at least the past two years
  • Be affiliated with or employed by HIV or related health sector organizations, associations, service providers, groups or communities
  • Demonstrate interest in person-centred care approaches and involvement in existing initiatives
  • Have professional working proficiency in the English language, as the academy will be held predominantly in English with interpretation services available for some sessions

Participants will be selected based on their potential to disseminate the knowledge they gain at the academy with other advocates, researchers, physicians, nurses, community healthcare providers and policy makers, among others, in their settings. We especially encourage applications from people who identify as members of a population experiencing stigma, marginalization and discrimination and/or people who are engaged with community-based organizations working to support these communities. Specifically, we are referring to communities of people living with HIV, gay men and other men who have sex with men, sex workers, people who use drugs, trans people, gender-diverse people, Indigenous peoples and migrants.

We will review applications on a rolling basis, and encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Applicants will be notified of their status via email within two months of the closure of the application window. Selected participants are expected to participate in the entire in-person academy programme and to prioritize attendance at all virtual sessions that will be scheduled before and after the academy programme.
