What inspires you to work in the HIV field?
I was born and raised with HIV and grew up facing exclusion and stigma as both a young LHIV and LGBTIQ+ person. My twin brother and I were expelled from kindergarten, and our presence in school sparked protests and media attention. These experiences formed my resilience and commitment to advocacy. As an excellent student and activist, I network my personal journey into volunteerism, community work and policy engagement, offering perspectives from Albania and the region. I am passionate about creating spaces where people living with HIV and LGBTIQ+ individuals can be heard, represented and empowered.
What are your goals as an IAS change maker?
As an IAS change maker, my goal is to amplify the voices of people living with HIV and LGBTIQ+ communities in Albania and the region, ensuring that they are included in policy and programme decisions that affect their lives. I aim to combine my scientific background with grassroots advocacy to drive evidence-based interventions, reduce stigma and promote education and awareness. Recently, I have been involved with youth-led advocacy for PrEP rights in Albania. I want to contribute to creating a society where people living with HIV and LGBTIQ+ individuals can live openly, safely and with equal opportunities.
