What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

What inspires me most to work in the HIV field is my desire to make a positive impact on people's lives and contribute to ending the HIV pandemic by working with people in the community and sensitizing them about HIV. As a CAB member and health journalist, I get inspired by the resilience and strength of people living with HIV, inspiring others to join the response. We have seen the reduction of stigma in communities and many people living with HIV being willing to talk to the media and researchers about their HIV status. This has inspired me to report more on HIV and create hope in people.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My goal as an advocate and mentor is to see that more people have knowledge of HIV prevention measures. There is demand for HIV prevention measures and the creation of hope and understanding that, through working together and helping research thrive in our country and globally, we are going to have a vaccine and a cure for HIV.

The IAS promotes the use of non-stigmatizing, people-first language. The translations are all automated in the interest of making our content as widely accessible as possible. Regretfully, they may not always adhere to the people-first language of the original version.
