What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

Despite significant progress in the field in Africa, much remains to be done in terms of HIV and STI prevention, early diagnosis of HIV, effective implementation of treatment recommendations, and advocacy for long-acting injectables. That was the trigger for my interest in HIV.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My main goals are, after the fellowship programme:

  • To be an HIV researcher in neurological complications of HIV and opportunistic diseases
  • To create a follow-up care and rehabilitation facility focusing on HIV-induced neurological damages and opportunistic diseases
  • To arouse interest in HIV specialization among the students I supervise, especially young female researchers
