Accreditation statement by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education 

“The IAS 2025, the 13th IAS Conference on HIV Science, Kigali, Rwanda 14/07/2025 - 17/07/2025, has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 16.0 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.”

Credit conversion

“Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications.”

“Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.”

“Credit will be converted based on one (1) hour of participation equalling one credit for all activities. Physicians wishing to convert EACCME® credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ will be required to access the AMA website at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications to obtain the necessary paperwork and instructions. Physicians and other health care professionals will be required to pay a processing fee to the AMA.

How to claim ECMEC®s credits™ 

  • To claim ECMEC®s credits™, please complete  this evaluation form after the conference. You will be able to fill in the form once it is activated after the last session of the conference. The deadline to submit the form is Thursday, 7 August 2025.
  • You can view sessions eligible for credits in the online programme by using the filter, “CME accreditation”. Sessions eligible for credits will also be marked on the virtual conference platform.
  • One hour of participation in an eligible session equals one credit; 30 minutes of participation in an eligible session equals 0.5 credit.
  • The maximum total number of credits to claim is 16 (15 July: 5.5 credits, 16 July: 5.5 credits, and 17 July: 5 credits).
  • Each participant can receive only the number of credits they are entitled to according to their actual participation in the event once they have completed the evaluation form.
  • Credits may be claimed only for educational sessions in which you participated (in person or virtually) from 15 to 17 July 2025. Participation on any other day is not considered for credit.
  • Please note that all data from the evaluation form, as well as data on your attendance at the conference, may be shared with the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) for the purpose of processing your application for credits. Your data will be stored by IAS – the International AIDS Society – and be accessible to EACCME® for six years.
  • After you have completed the form, we will verify your attendance and contact you via email to issue the ECMEC®s credits™ certificate.

Overall learning objectives

After participating in IAS 2025, participants will be able to:    

  • Apply the lessons learnt from the latest advancements made in HIV science largely based on the contributions of African scientists.
  • Sensitize their research and practice to be responsive to the priorities of affected communities and those most impacted by HIV.
  • Inform their research and practice by innovations in basic and clinical science for person-centred precision medicine for HIV, encompassing reducing transmission, developing vaccines, understanding pathogenesis, managing co-infections and co-morbidities, addressing ageing-related issues, and advancing toward an HIV cure.
  • Advance optimization of biomedical, behavioural and structural interventions for HIV prevention to overcome implementation and systemic challenges and become more cost effective and scalable.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration across biomedical, clinical, social and implementation sciences to effectively support translation of research findings into actionable policies and practices.
