Today’s plenary, “Taking the holistic view: Syndemics”, highlights mpox and HIV, harm reduction initiatives, and new evidence on cervical cancer screening and treatment of women living with HIV. It concludes with the awarding of the IAS/ANRS Lange/van Tongeren Prizes for Young Investigators.

The symposium, “Leadership for science: How do we move forward?”, explores ways to keep on track to end the AIDS pandemic by 2030 and sustain the response in these challenging times. Hear from scientific leaders on how science must continue to guide our responses, shifting the balance in science leadership from high-income to low- and middle-income countries, and safeguarding scientific integrity in this era of science scepticism and disinformation.
“Long-acting technology: Revolution or retreat?” explores how to get the data we need from implementation studies, how digital health can support scale up and implementation, and achieving equity in long-acting prevention.
Oral abstract sessions focus on advances in HIV vaccine platforms, special issues in paediatrics and strategies to improve HIV self-testing, diagnosis and care across diverse settings.
The IAS General Members’ Meeting takes place.
12:15 CAT
Take some time to have a look at what’s happening in satellite sessions and the poster exhibition! Satellites in this slot include practical case discussions and a focus on the ImPrEP CAB-LA study in Brazil.
You can interact with authors at their posters from 12:15 to 13:15. Your many options today include:
- Late-breaker findings from the first real-world implementation of long-acting cabotegravir for HIV prevention among adolescent girls and young women in Zambia
- A look at the integration of mental health screening, treatment and care into HIV services for key populations in Zambia
- Evaluation of 12-month retention in a national cohort of PrEP initiators in Rwanda
13:45 CAT
The special session, “The double burden: HIV incidence and prevalence in conflict”, focuses on the challenges in reaching people in times of war and in conflict areas.
15:00 CAT
Latest data on long-acting ART in adults with suboptimal HIV control and on an oral long-acting PrEP option come under the spotlight in the “Co-Chairs’ choice” session, along with the impact of sudden aid funding cuts in various countries.
The symposium, “Let’s get real: Implementing PrEP choice in practice”, focuses on what PrEP choice really means and what delivering PrEP choice looks like in practice.
“Advancing HIV monitoring: Community leadership, big data science and systems integration” dissects secular trends to consider in monitoring progress, including new technologies like artificial intelligence and declining HIV prevention and treatment resources, and lays out lessons from community-led monitoring.
“Identifying and intervening on social structural determinants of health” explores how social and structural factors influence health and well-being and ways to identify, monitor and intervene on these determinants.
Oral abstract sessions focus on service integration in a new operating environment, with real-world examples, and the power of omics in HIV research.
16:30 CAT
Build your skills in scientific writing at the Journal of the International AIDS Society (JIAS) workshop, “How to write and submit a research manuscript”. It provides practical information to support new and early-career HIV researchers in successfully submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.
“The emerging landscape of PrEP choice” includes abstracts on lessons from the introduction of PEPFAR-supported long-acting injectable cabotegravir in shaping global prevention efforts and late-breaking data from a modelling study on the potential impact of long-acting lenacapavir among adolescent girls and young women in Kenya. “Innovative community approaches to HIV prevention, care and rights”, meanwhile, includes an analysis of participatory research with trans individuals as peer research associates in a qualitative study on female sex workers’ health and rights in Argentina.
Effective ART means that people are living longer with HIV, and the symposium, “HIV clinical challenges”, explores the clinical challenges this brings, such as weight gain, cardiovascular diseases and viral hepatitis. “Growing the paediatric response” looks at progress and innovations in the pipeline for promoting health outcomes in paediatric populations.
The IAS Regional Members’ Meeting: USA and Canada takes place.
18:00 CAT
Satellite sessions, including a focus on vaccines and person-centred care, take place.
The IAS Regional Members’ Meeting: Latin America and the Caribbean takes place.

The IAS 2025 exhibition
The exhibition is open from 10:30 to 17:00 CAT. Explore cutting-edge products and services and chat with representatives of key organizations in the HIV response.
JIAS
The Journal of the International AIDS Society supplement, “Differentiated service delivery – beyond HIV treatment for integration and other health needs”, has just been launched. The articles showcase how DSD offers a way to keep people at the centre, going beyond HIV treatment and building health systems efficiently, equitably and sustainably. Join the JIAS satellite session today at 12:15 CAT.
Meet the change makers

Asha Ulusow is an advocate, researcher and programme creator dedicated to addressing systemic gaps in healthcare and support services for Black and Indigenous young people in Canada. With the support of the IAS Youth Hub Seed Grant Programme, she created a project that addresses these gaps through culturally relevant care, mental health resources, and legal and community support. Asha is moderating “Identifying and intervening on social structural determinants of health” at 15:00 CAT.
