Omar Sued, an internal medicine and infectious diseases specialist, holds a Master’s and a PhD from the University of Barcelona. He has been working in HIV since 1997 in various countries and settings, including hospitals, health centres, prisons and NGOs. In 2016 and 2021, he was Chair of the Argentinean Infectious Diseases Congresses. From 2012 to 2021, he was Director of the Research Department of Fundación Huésped in Buenos Aires, and was President of the Argentinean Infectious Disease Society for 2019-2021. In 2021, he joined PAHO as Regional Advisor for HIV treatment and care. He has been part of several WHO guideline expert groups, including: post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV and use of co-trimoxazole prophylaxis for HIV-related conditions among adults, adolescents and children; diagnosis, prevention and management of cryptococcal disease in adults, adolescents and children with HIV; and use of ARVs for treating and preventing HIV. He has authored more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
