Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, retrovirologist, Research Director at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and Professor at the Institut Pasteur in France until 2015, is internationally recognized for her contributions to HIV and AIDS research, for which she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2008. She is author and co-author of more than 300 original publications and more than 125 review articles. Today, she serves as Honorary President of the Pasteur Network and of the Virology Department of the Institut Pasteur. She is a member of the French Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine in France and in the US, and a number of international scientific advisory boards. She has been elevated to the rank of Grand Cross of the French Legion of Honor. She was the President of the IAS from 2012 to 2014.
