
Mark Butler has been a Labor Member in the Federal Parliament since 2007 and is the Minister for Health and Aged Care. He has served as the Member for Port Adelaide and for Hindmarsh and as Minister for Ageing and Australia’s first Minister for Mental Health. He has also held the ministries of Housing, Homelessness, Social Inclusion, Climate Change, Water and the Environment. Previously, Mark worked with United Voice, including serving as State Secretary for 11 years. In 2003, he was awarded the Centenary Medal for services to trade unionism and in 2013, the Alzheimer’s Disease International Award for Outstanding Global Contribution to the Fight Against Dementia. Mark has served as President of the South Australian Branch of the ALP (1997-1998) and a member of the ALP National Executive (2000-2014). He was Labor National President from 2015 to 2018 and is currently Senior Vice President. Mark authored Advanced Australia – The Politics of Ageing (2015) and Climate Wars (2017), and holds a first-class Honours Law degree, an Arts degree and a Master’s in International Relations
